You’re physically present. Maybe you’re on the couch, at the table, at the playground, or standing in the kitchen while your child talks to you.

Your eyes are on your screen. Your responses come a little late. You say “mmhm” at the right times, but you’re not really following what your child is saying. And they notice. It’s not something they can explain, but children sense these things through your body language, the way you pay attention, and all the small signals that show if you’re truly present or just nearby.
