They undermined a consequence you’d set, or they offered the exact thing you’d said no to, five minutes after you said it.

And you said nothing. Because it’s family, they mean well, and the last time something like this came up, it turned into a thing, and you don’t have the energy for another thing, and anyway, they’re good with the kids, they love them, and it feels ungrateful to complain about people who love your children.

So you absorb it, and it accumulates, and eventually you’re dreading visits that you’re also grateful for, and carrying resentment toward people you also love, and having arguments in your head with people you haven’t actually spoken to, and wondering at what point you’re allowed to just say something.
